Site Inspector privacy policy

Last updated: July 17, 2026

This policy explains what data the Site Inspector by Boggs Chrome extension ("the extension") touches, what stays on your machine, and the limited cases where information leaves your browser. Site Inspector is a diagnostic tool for marketers and developers — it is built to read and analyze pages you are already viewing, not to track you or your browsing.

The short version

  • The extension analyzes pages on demand — it inspects the tab you are looking at when you open the side panel and use a tool. It does not run in the background or monitor your browsing history.
  • Nearly everything happens locally in your browser. Page analysis (design, SEO, fonts, colors, headings, tags, cookies of the inspected site) is computed on your device and is not sent to us.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not use the content of the pages you inspect for advertising.
  • The only data that leaves your browser is (1) your account and subscription details, needed to run your licensed access, and (2) requests you explicitly make to Meta's Marketing API after you sign in with Facebook.

What the extension does on your device

Most of Site Inspector runs entirely inside your browser. When you use a tool in the side panel, it reads the current page and computes results locally. This on-device processing includes:

  • Inspecting elements — the DOM structure, box model, computed styles, typography, and the form an element belongs to.
  • Creative audits — full-page color palettes, WCAG contrast checks, font usage, and image/SVG assets.
  • SEO checks — heading outlines, keyword counts, and meta / OpenGraph / Twitter / canonical tags.
  • Tag detection — reading Google Tag Manager, GA4, Universal Analytics, Google Ads, and Meta Pixel IDs already present on the page.
  • Field mapping — auto-detecting product data from JSON-LD, microdata, and meta tags, and building CSS selectors for fields you click.
  • Utilities — the breakpoint previewer, URL breakdown, an outline toggle, and a cookie viewer that reads the cookies of the site you are inspecting.

Results are shown to you in the panel and are not transmitted to us. Any visual change the extension makes to a page (font swaps, outlines, previews) lives only in the current tab and is reverted when you refresh — nothing is written back to the website.

Live event monitoring and the Chrome debugger API

The Tags tab's live event monitor and the breakpoint previewer use Chrome's debugger API. While you have monitoring or a breakpoint preview running, Chrome shows a "started debugging this browser" banner and the extension can observe the analytics and pixel requests the inspected tab fires so it can decode and display them to you.

This inspection is active only while you turn it on, applies to the tab you are inspecting, and stops when you stop monitoring or exit the preview. The decoded events are displayed in the panel and are not sent to us.

Account and subscription data

Site Inspector is offered as a free trial followed by a paid subscription, so some account information is required to run and license your access. Depending on how you sign up, this may include:

  • Your email address and basic profile details used to create and authenticate your account.
  • Subscription and license status that tells the extension whether your access is active.
  • Billing is handled by our payment provider and, where applicable, the Chrome Web Store. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Account records are stored on our infrastructure (see Service providers) and used only to operate your access, provide support, and manage billing.

Meta Ads connection (Facebook sign-in)

The Meta Ads enhancement control is optional and only becomes active if you choose to connect it. When you sign in with Facebook, you grant the extension access to your Meta Marketing API data so it can work on your behalf. Using this feature, the extension:

  • Reads the ad accounts, active ads, and creative settings you have access to, in order to scan which Meta "enhancements" are enabled.
  • Writes changes back to Meta only when you explicitly choose to disable enhancements on ads you select. Advantage+ audience is never modified, and settings you leave unchecked are not touched.
  • Uses the access token issued by Facebook solely to make these requests on your behalf; it is used for your session and is not sold or shared.

These requests go directly to Meta's API under your own authorization. You can revoke the extension's access at any time from your Facebook Business Integrations settings. Your use of Meta's platform is also governed by Meta's own terms and privacy policy.

Settings stored in your browser

Your preferences — such as your light / dark theme choice and the custom fields you configure — are saved locally in your browser (via Chrome extension storage). These stay on your device and sync only through Chrome's own account sync if you have that enabled.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not build advertising profiles from the pages you inspect.
  • We do not collect your browsing history or run analysis on pages in the background.
  • We do not transmit the content, cookies, or event data of the sites you inspect to our servers.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of third parties to operate the service. They process data only as needed to provide their function:

  • Supabase — hosts our database and authentication for account and license management.
  • Our payment provider and the Chrome Web Store — process subscriptions and billing.
  • Meta Platforms — receives the Marketing API requests you make when you use the Meta Ads feature.

Data retention

Account and license records are retained for as long as your account is active and as needed to meet legal, accounting, and support obligations. Locally processed page data is transient and is discarded when you close the panel or refresh the tab. Settings stored in your browser remain until you clear them or remove the extension.

Your choices and rights

  • Uninstall the extension at any time to stop all processing; local settings are removed with it.
  • Disconnect Meta by revoking access in your Facebook settings.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of the account data we hold by emailing us.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data. Contact us and we will honor applicable requests.

Children

Site Inspector is a professional tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
